They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, so I reckon I must be in hell! I had all these plans about how I was going to tackle Christmas and New Year, and within a couple of days they’d all flown out the window. The result was an 8lbs gain. I’ve managed to lose 4.5lbs already, but now, in the cool light of day, I’m so regretting the excess. I worked so hard to lose that weight and it was so easy to gain it all again! On New Year’s Day I actually weighed the same as I did last New Year’s Day. Not what I was planning at all. So, it’s time to pick myself up, dust myself down and start all over again.
I remember one of my old slimming club consultants (yes, I have got through several of them in the many years I’ve been on this weight loss journey!) describe a pound weight loss as ‘the perfect pound’. At the time I thought a pound wasn’t much to sing and dance about, but in recent years I’ve come to appreciate the smallest of losses. Any loss is better than no loss.
I worked out during the first meeting of this year that a one pound loss every single week would result in a 3 stone 10 lbs loss over the entire year. On that particular day that was exactly how much I needed to lose to get to my target weight of 11 stones, and suddenly I found myself growing in hope and optimism! Yes, I haven’t really made any progress at all this year because I keep yoyoing between small losses and similar sized gains, but if I could just sustain those small losses and turn the gains into maintains, I could reach target this year. I really could! Surely it’s possible to lose an average of just one pound a week?
My dream is to lose 2lbs per week, but my expectation is that it will be a pound. I’m going to give this my best shot. I need to get this done!
