We decided that we needed more time to ourselves. Our son was all consuming of us (we wouldn’t have it any other way) but we were losing “us” a bit. On holiday we had a big chat about going on date nights. I said that if we agreed a date each month and a general chat about what we’d both like to do, I would sort it. I didn’t want to put it all on my husband and put him under pressure and end up being disappointed – essentially setting us both up for a fall. So that was the plan.

We booked my sister in and went out for a meal. It was a VERY quick turn around and we were back home in no time but it was nice to chat and eat our own food, without a small hand dipping in there or having to constantly pick cutlery up off the floor! We mainly chatted about Spud and work but that was fine, it was just nice to get dressed up and not be mummy and daddy (just for one short hour).

It was time to get dressed up and go Trick or Treating again. This year he totally “got it”. I squeezed him back into last year’s pumpkin outfit and put green chalk paint in his hair (note to self, this took three weeks to get out properly!). He collected his body weight in sweets and chocolate and it was lovely to see everyone out and about and enjoying the evening. My mum came with us this time and she was full of it, talking about it for ages afterwards, which was nice.

Our boy started dancing classes. We’d waited until he was a bit bigger and his concentration was better. After a couple of settling in weeks, he loved it. He won the super star award one week and his dad was so proud and took his picture to send to the grandparents.

Saturdays have always been the boys’ day together, so it was dancing in the morning followed by swimming in the afternoons. I love it when my husband tells me all about swimming and what they did and who they saw and how brave our boy was becoming. My husband is a strong swimmer and I love that he is passing his confidence onto Blondy. I’m not great at swimming, I love water parks and will randomly throw myself in and jump in off a boat….often forgetting that I need to be able to swim when I land! Probably best daddy keeps doing the swimming lessons, hey?!
