I went to a wedding last week and wore a dress that fitted very tightly the last time I tried it on. In fact, on that occasion I needed assistance from body sculpting underwear to ensure that all my lumps and bumps were suitable disguised!

However, last weekend my dress felt much looser and a lot more comfortable and I was able to wear it confidently without any restrictive underwear. This is because I weighed just a few pounds lighter than the last time I put it on.

This has given me just the boost I need to get myself focused again on losing weight. I’ve known for a long time that I just need to experience again the benefits of dropping the pounds to kick start me into following the eating plan properly. I’ve almost forgotten that euphoric feeling of having a good weight loss, or of dropping a dress size. But I really would like to feel that way again!

Yes, you might be thinking “I’ve heard all this before”. No one is more aware of that than I am. But one thing I know is that it is not good to look back and feel regret about missed opportunities. The only way to move forward is to look forward. Diet expert Rosemary Conley shared this with me 20 years ago when I met her on the set of Richard and Judy, and I have never forgotten it.

Sometimes the task seems insurmountable. I feel that way occasionally when I get in the swimming pool with the goal of swimming a mile. “However am I going to complete 64 lengths?” I wonder. Then I realise I just need to take it a length at a time. Don’t think too far ahead.

I want to lose another four stones to enter the healthy weight range for my height. I’m not even half way there yet. But I mustn’t think about that. I’ll just take it a pound at a time. They all add up, and eventually I’ll get there!
