Several years ago a friend of mine with a long term weight problem decided she was having one last bid to lose her excess weight. “If I don’t do it this time, then that’s it!” she announced. She went on to lose more than six stones and happily has managed to keep the weight off.

Being in lockdown with more time on my hands than usual has given me chance to reflect on and re-evaluate my priorities. I’ve decided that some things about my life are going to change. I AM going to do all those things that have been on my TO DO list since the beginning of time, and I AM going to get a better work/life balance!

Amongst the things I have decided I MUST stop putting off is this weight loss journey. It’s taking far too long! I don’t know why I’m making such a meal of it (excuse the pun!) but I’ve decided the time has come to do as my friend did – and just get on with it! No more excuses!

So, to spur me on to greater and more consistent action, I’ve set myself a time limit. This Slimming Diary ends in December. Whatever I weigh then, I will cease to be the Mystery Slimmer. I have six months to reach my target of 11 stones which I set for myself OVER 10 YEARS AGO! It’s do-able with a loss of 1.5lb every week.

Am I nervous about it? Yes of course! Do I doubt myself? Most definitely! But I also believe it is possible. I’ve proven I can lose and keep off four stones, so where there is fear there is also hope, and where there is doubt there is also belief! It all sounds very deep doesn’t it, but this is a really big deal to me. Anyone with a lifelong weight problem will understand.

My last entry will be written in December, to be published in the January 2021 YourMag. It will be a New Year, and hopefully also a new start for me. It really is now or never – I mean it!
